Who developed the Carbowatch?

Dr. Raj Gupta developed this program initially for his family that had unsuccessfully tried several programs to control body weight. Raj is a Ph.D. in physics who, after being a senior scientist at the National Research Council of Canada and a professor at McGill University, entered his own business. He is president of ProSoya Inc., a company that exploits his various patent to market soymilk and soyfoods technology and equipment worldwide. He is also a film producer and a philanthropist. Currently, Raj is an adjunct physics professor at the University of Ottawa, teaching astrophysics and doing research in cosmology.

How did it come into existence?

It is difficult to learn something when you think you know everything about a subject. This problem is faced by most when it comes to things we encounter everyday. We all know foods have calories, we burn calories by doing exercise, and if we do enough exercise and eat limited food then we will be able to control or lose weight.

Raj Gupta’s family faced the same problem. Nothing seemed to work. Giving up desserts entirely didn’t help. Giving us soft drinks entirely did not help either. Going on pasta diet and other special diets didn’t work, at least in the long run.

Raj had mild blood pressure and his doctor asked him repeatedly to lose weight. With difficulty, at the cost of being perpetually hungry and feeling weak, he would lose up to five pounds but quickly put back that weight, especially when traveling on business or pleasure.

Raj’s wife had controlled her weight well for long but it had started creeping upward with age. She had been trying to control weight by reading articles in newspapers and magazines. She asserted to the family that we should not take rice and bread both with the same meal if we wished to control weight. Whenever she tried controlling weight for an extended period, she felt weak.

The concern heightened when his son, already overweight, started to put on additional weight while away from home to a University. The son avoided meeting people he knew when he came home because of his excess weight. He would explode into anger when told to control his food intake and do exercise. He told us he played tennis regularly for an hour a day and he gave up taking soft drinks. He ate a big bowl of salad everyday and no dessert. He gave up one meal every day. He often felt weak and energetically run down. But nothing had seemed to work. He gained weight in spite of all that and he resigned saying, “Perhaps I am going to be grossly overweight for the rest of my life. It is my body constitution.”

Raj then decided to put his research experience and aptitude to perform a thorough research on dieting. More he researched, more confusing it became. There are so many books in the market, so many websites, so many plans – each claiming to eradicate the bodyweight problem from the earth, forever.

Raj started working on a clue in one of his friend’s letter relating to the low carbohydrate diet, which helped lose weight while still feeling energetic. He gathered information from various sources and condensed them into simple findings. He put the findings into practice on himself and to his astonishment it worked, and it worked well. His visiting son noticed it too and complimented him, and so did his physician.

Raj then started writing e-mail letters to his son and this way the findings first appeared in writing. To his pleasant surprise, his 235 lbs. son took up the findings seriously and told him after 4 weeks that he had lost 10 lbs. The son then continued to lose weight approximately at the same rate for several months. When he visited home, he had lost 40 lbs in less than 4 months. He eventually managed to lose 70 lbs. and is holding at 165 lbs for last one year. He is happy that he can eat every thing he likes and is confident he can never put on weight again. He knows exactly what to do if his bodyweight starts inching upward.

Raj’s wife also lost the little excess bodyweight she had by following the findings.

His friends and associates started asking Raj how the whole family managed to lose weight, look younger, and feel more energetic. He then decided to develop a systematic and concise description of his findings to share it with anyone desirous of losing body weight. Since it requires one to watch carbohydrate intake (among other things), he named it CarboWatch.

Is there a book on CarboWatch?

Currently, CarboWatch findings for bodyweight control are available only on the internet. The findings are very simple and easy to implement in practice. Writing a publishable book will requires these findings to be buried in lot of words to be attractive for selling purpose. In addition, there is an inherent delay in publishing a book and taking it to readers. And then of course an up front cost to the reader. Nobody should pay for something unless she/he gets a value for it.
